There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes preparation by the Program Administrator. Her work begins in the Spring, with the creation of a budget and time-line. Grant-writing begins then, also. Once the finances are in place, handouts and recruitment materials can be created. Staff Education begins before school starts, by making the School To Career teachers aware of the program. Recruitment for the Workshop Phase begins in the Fall, with lots of PR in local newspapers and media just after school has begun. An exhibit can be set up for Back To School Night, and teachers in business ed classes and DECA let eligible girls know about YWOW. An Orientation is helpful to let students and their parents know more about the program. The first workshop is held about a week later. In the Workshop Phase, five training sessions are held at a business location away from the school, such as a bank board room. The workshops are 3 hours long, held after school or on an "early release" afternoon when school is not held.
