Over the years, discussion questions and a lesson plan have been developed that encourage student participation and speaker involvement. The speakers, usually two or three per workshop, are women business owners and professionals from the community who draw on personal experiences to give the students tips, tricks and insights to make their transition from school to the business world smoother. The students received the book, Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Your Own Business and a loose-leaf notebook for the many handouts. We often receive donated books and magazines to give the students.
In past years, Wendy's Corporate Offices donated copies of the book Dave's Way , Lydia's Style Magazine donated current and past issues, and the Coloradoan Newspaper donated copies of The Women's Resource Guide. Depending on the number of students and the money available in the budget, we are often able to purchase additional resources such as GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS: True Stories About Starting and Running a Business Plus How You Can Do It Yourself by Frances Karnes and Suzanne Bean , Stop Screaming At The Microwave by Mary LoVerde, and Lions Don't Need To Roar by Debra Benton. The students also attend the Loveland Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours, the Loveland Business Women's Network Holiday Luncheon, and the Fort Collins Women's Network Luncheon and Business Showcase. A graduation is held for students and their parents to celebrate the completion of the first phase of the program.
